DAVID ALLAN, SHA
David worked as a Calligrapher and Umquhile Heraldic Artist in the Court of the Lord Lyon for 28 years. During this time, he produced many official documents, including Royal Warrants. After this happy and productive period, he stopped taking commissions from the Lyon Court to concentrate on developing his own heraldic techniques and calligraphy styles in various formats.
He still produces official documents, including Freedom Scrolls for the City of Edinburgh. David creates his artwork using both conventional and contemporary methods, and has also transformed his conventional calligraphy into digital calligraphy.
David has also produced an invaluable Interactive Clan Map (available on his website), which aim is to provide a welcome pack for clansfolk visiting Scotland to help get in touch with official societies and associations and help these bodies attract new members. There are links to useful civic websites including The Court of the Lord Lyon, a standing court of law, based in Edinburgh, which regulates all heraldry in Scotland. The Lyon Court maintains the register of grants of arms, known as the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, as well as records of genealogies.
Please contact David via his website to enquire or schedule a telephone or Zoom consultation. This will ensure that discussions about your project can take place without interruption and at a mutually convenient time. It is also possible to meet David in Edinburgh by appointment.
