The Society of Heraldic Arts

TANIA CROSSINGHAM, SHA

Tania is an Australian-born artist based in Finland, with a career spanning more than 35 years. From a young age, her fascination with books, art, medieval history, all things miniature, and a profound sense of the Divine drew her to the illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages.

Beginning her professional journey as an Art and History teacher, Tania soon followed her passion into the intricate world of medieval illumination and calligraphy, later expanding into the artistry of heraldry. Over the decades, she has specialized in historical art while also embracing contemporary expression through pencil drawings, gouache, and oil painting.

For over 30 years, Tania has shared her knowledge through her School of Illumination, inspiring students worldwide to explore this timeless craft. More recently, she has ventured into surface pattern design, launching a luxury fashion brand that brings her highly detailed designs into a modern context as wearable art.

Her work has reached audiences across the globe, from private collectors to international institutions. She serves as the honorary heraldic painter for the Georgian Royal Family, and her artistry has appeared in Warner Brothers films, international magazines, and academic journals. One of her pieces was also presented to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Tania’s portfolio ranges from meticulously hand-painted heraldic achievements, letters patents, illuminated manuscripts, and mounted knights, to fabric designs and bespoke bookplates. Each piece reflects her devotion to detail, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of historical art reimagined for today.
